Pair’s 94-run partnership helps ADIS make under-16 final ahead of Cambridge High School

Abu Dhabi Indian School’s Nithin Samuel receives the man of the match prize from Promoth Manghat, Vice President – Global operations, of the UAE Exchange Centre.
Abu Dhabi: Nithin Samuel and Kushal Mohnot combined to produce a match-winning partnership for Abu Dhabi Indian School in the Emirates inter-school tournament. The two shared a 94-run stand for the third wicket to lead ADIS to a six-wicket win over Cambridge High School and a passage to the under-16 final.
Samuel hit 62 at just over a run-a-ball and Mohnot slammed 49 off 39 deliveries, each hitting four boundaries, to take their team’s score from 60 for two to 156. Mohnot was run out, missing out on a well-deserved half century, while Samuel fell six runs later, but they had done enough for Anson Quadros (6) and Mafaz Bin Ahsan (7) to complete the win with five deliveries to spare.
Samuel and Ashfaq Anwar had given ADIS a solid start with a 51-run opening wicket stand in under ten overs. Anwar was run out for 17 and, nine runs later, Moiz Qazi bowled Mohammad Israfil (5) with his very first delivery — giving him three wickets in three balls after successive wickets against the ADIS first team the previous day.
Earlier Cambridge, who won the toss, lost Bilal Passela to a run-out without facing a delivery. However, his opening partner Shaheer Jazil and Mohammad Riyan put on 64 in 12 overs. Jazil was run out for 27 and Riyan went on to make 57, while Qazi’s quick-fire 37 from 18 balls lifted Cambridge’s total to 172 for five.
Scores:
Cambridge High School: 172 for 5 in 25 overs (Mohammad Riyan 57, Moiz Qazi 37 not out, Shaheer Jazil 27, Moaaz Qazi 20) lost to Abu Dhabi Indian School: 173 for 4 in 24.1 overs (Nithin Samuel 62, Kushal Mohnot 49, Ashfaq Anwar 17). Man of the match: Nithin Samuel of ADIS.
